As a registered nurse, I assist individuals and couples in making informed decisions grounded in evidence-based information, providing unwavering support and guidance throughout their fertility journey. Embracing a holistic approach that encompasses both the clinical and psychosocial aspects of fertility care, I empower clients to navigate the complex path towards parenthood with knowledge, confidence, resilience, and a sense of control.
More about TaraThey help clients gain evidence-based knowledge in reproductive anatomy and physiology, fertility investigative tests, procedures or treatments with assisted reproductive technologies such as IUI and IVF, donor conception, surrogacy, alternative paths to parenthood, lifestyle factors that impact fertility or any other aspects of their reproductive health.
They ensure clients understand the medical terminology and treatment plan surrounding their care. They help prepare pertinent questions ahead of medical appointments, set expectations before, during and after tests, procedures and treatments, discuss potential outcomes, and coordinate care by facilitating the ongoing communication between clients and healthcare providers.
They provide health assessments and consults throughout treatments, develop personalized care plans tailored to clients' specific goals, needs, and circumstances that optimize their physical and psychosocial well-being. They provide guidance to address clients' challenges, assist them in making informed decisions, and provide them with a comprehensive list of Montreal-based and Canadian fertility care resources (in-person and remote).
They complete mental health assessments addressing psychosocial modalities, provide unwavering support throughout the emotional complexities clients face, including coping strategies and tools to minimize stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. They help with communication and navigating relationship dynamics within their care team and family, or amongst friends and coworkers.
They offer recommendations on lifestyle modifications related to diet, sleep, exercise, smoking, stress management and alcohol consumption, to optimize fertility wellness and overall health, which can positively impact fertility outcomes. They can offer guidance on alternative and complementary therapies, alongside conventional fertility treatments, for clients wishing to explore those modalities.
They advocate for their clients by ensuring that they are active participants in their own care, are equipped with the knowledge to assert their needs, and receive comprehensive and inclusive fertility care with affirming support that respects their identities and family-building goals along their journey.
They facilitate community peer support groups, which represent an invaluable part of clients' fertility journeys, and where individuals come together to share their stories, ask questions, seek practical advice and gain empowerment through knowledge. Regardless of where clients find themselves on the journey to creating their family, establishing a fertility community is beneficial for fostering emotional support, providing opportunities for mutual encouragement, exchanging shared experiences, and accessing reliable information.
